About the Event
Shanker Singham has previously been referred to as the ‘brains of Brexit’ and was appointed to the Trade and Agriculture Commission by Liz Truss in the past. He consistently championed the free trade agenda, pushing for the UK to sign deals with countries across the world. He has also been vocal in the standards argument, suggesting it is ‘meaningless’ to say the UK has higher animal welfare or environmental standards than other nations, because it has ‘good standards in some areas and not good standards in other areas.’ Mr Singham has regularly warned against taking an EU-style approach to regulation post-Brexit, and will be discussing the broader point on this event of how the UK can better promote freedom and democracy worldwide?
Shanker Singham is Chair of Global Vision, CEO of Competere, Head of Trade at the Centre for Economics and Business Research, a senior advisor to Huntsworth and Grayling and Director of the International Trade and Competition Unit at the Institute of Economic Affairs. He is the author of From Poverty to Prosperity: The Economic and Moral Cases for Property Rights, Open Trade and Competitive Markets.
