About the Event

'Levelling-up' is a great idea, but how do you achieve it in practice? And in a way that empowers current and future generations, rather than just relying on hand-outs?

For 'levelling-up' to mean anything, we must enable people from all walks of life to participate in wealth creation and build a real sense of ownership. My proposals for a more egalitarian form of capitalism and a continuing process of inter-generational rebalancing are a far-sighted and practical approach to achieve that objective, for both current and future generations. Rooted in Conservative principles of free enterprise and self-determination, they will empower people at all levels of society, and enable all to benefit from the opportunities accruing from the technological revolution.

Speakers at this event:

Gavin Oldham

Gavin is an entrepreneur with 45 years' experience in the provision of personal share ownership and empowering young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. As founder of The Share Centre, registered charity The Share Foundation (which runs the Child Trust Fund & Junior ISA schemes for young people in care for the Department for Education), and Share Radio, he has developed a comprehensive set of proposals to re-set capitalism so that it doesn't just result in 'the rich getting richer and the poor, poorer'). He is also a member of the General Synod, and was a Church Commissioner for 18 years. He was awarded an OBE for his work for young people in 2018.
