Formal Response: Future of the Welfare State

"This report rightly highlights that the welfare state is not all about unemployment, but also how our citizens are taxed to fund national support schemes and projects."

We are pleased to share with you a formal response from the Party Chairman, Richard Holden MP, to our consultation on The Future of the Welfare State (23#5), completed in January.

Labour and Liz Kendall seem to be going after the easy targets again. They have put so much effort into attacking pensioners, the disabled and been two tier on violent crime, but have done nothing about 'The boats'. Maybe they should take a leaf out of Donald Trumps book.

I think it is unfair that they are going to re-assess the severely disabled as well. That isn't right. It needs a shake up, but not the extent of means testing everyone.

I think you make good points Janine. But from a politics point of view, I think our party, and that means Kemi Badenoch, needs to up our game in the House. Liz Kendall is getting more grief from her own MPs than she is from us right now. We need to target our response - cracking down on those taking benefits who don't need them is one thing, but as you say, hitting pensioners and the truly disabled is another.
