Thank you to the 1,070 CPF Members from at least 342 constituencies who responded to our Winter Fuel Allowance survey, plus the 382 or more Members who participated in small-group discussions organised by the CPF online and in-person around the country.
Almost three-quarters (72.4%) of CPF Members or their relatives are personally concerned or very concerned about the Labour Government’s changed approach to helping older people manage their heating needs during periods of colder weather each winter.
The most frequently mentioned measures for which members think Conservatives should campaign to help deliver sustainable retirement incomes for the country’s population included:
Reinstate Universal Winter Fuel Allowance: With some proposals suggesting taxation or adjustments for wealthier recipients.
Simplify Pension Systems: Including streamlining pension arrangements, reducing administrative burdens and improving transparency.
Raise Awareness and Education on Retirement Planning: Introduce financial literacy programs in schools and “midlife sense checks” to encourage savings.
Several international models were mentioned as examples that could be adapted to UK policy in ways that:
Strengthen retirement savings and pensions (Switzerland, Singapore, Australia).
Improve elderly care through local community support (Japan, South Korea).
Make taxation fairer to ensure long-term economic stability (Sweden, France, Hungary).
As usual, a more detailed report of members’ views has been shared with the Party’s leadership.
It seems to be a petty & spiteful act from Labour to deny oap's the comfort of certainty that we will have help in paying the now exorbitant amount of fuel bills, whilst brazenly funding a carefree lifestyle of illegal immigrants. This is so very wrong on so many levels & must be addressed.
I think this survey really highlights how many older people are worried about the changes. The winter fuel allowance was never meant to be a luxury – it’s about making sure people can afford the basics, especially during freezing months.
On another note, just like people look for clear and helpful resources on topics like pensions, in my own field I see the same with gaming. For example, a lot of players search for bus simulator indonesia mod apk unlimited money and all vehicles unlocked because it gives them access to everything without unnecessary complications. It shows how much value people place on simplicity and accessibility—something that should apply equally when it comes to retirement planning.
I agree that reinstating the Universal Winter Fuel Allowance is very important, especially for vulnerable groups. Clear pension systems and better financial literacy programs can also make a big difference.
We should support reducing fuel costs for everyone so that pensioners can afford to heat their homes. It would also help our manufavturing industries which are crippled by unnecessarily high energy costs. This means rowing back on net zero. We should stop taxpayers money being wasted on 'green energy' schemes. We can exploit our natural reserves of fossil fuels until we have built enough small nuclear reactors. We led the world in nuclear technology and we can do it again. Self sufficiency in energy is a vital national goal.
I will never forgive labour even though they have u turned. This government needs to be ousted
